On Letting Go.
In the most serendipitous way, I recently befriended a professional MMA fighter. He’s been training for 6 years with the goal of competing in the UFC. As he puts it, “I train so that I can live an even harder life.”
It wasn’t long before I was interrogating him for his views on motivation, discipline, pain, & fear.
I was most curious to learn how he handles the incessant physical and mental onslaught of his chosen profession. Do you dissociate? Do you simply let go? His response has been echoing in my head:
Part of letting go is about holding tight. You have to feel what you’re going through 100%. If you don’t let yourself feel the pain and darkness, you won’t be able to feel the joy and light in life.
